Where to sell my huge collection of hotwheels and Johnny Lightning Diecast cars?
I have a huge collection of Hotwheels and Johnny Lightning Diecast cars and have not had any success selling them. I have tried ebay without success and have looked online for various hobby shops that would buy them from me. I really need to get rid of them because I have a baby coming soon. Please help me out with this.
How old are they? Are they vintage 1960s-early'70s? Or are they '80s and newer? Originals do pretty well on eBay for the scarce pieces. Originals that don't - that will tell you that there are more of those pieces out there than there are collectors who will pay premium prices.
The modern stuff, you will be lucky to see 25 to 50 cents on the dollar for what you paid. More like 10 to 25. They're just not old enough yet to have any value.
It doesn't do well on eBay, primarily because there is more of it than there is a marketplace that wants it, also because of the cost of shipping. Someone who would pay $10 for a particular piece will bid only $5 if the shipping is $5.
Your best bet is to try Craigslist, or give them to an auctioneer to be sold as one lot, or if the collection is large and varied enough, broken down into several lots.
